Meryl Streep to Join Russell Brand for Arthur Remake? – Inside Movies

Feb-16-2010 Posted under Uncategorized

When we heard that Russell Brand was to star in a movie called Arthur we envisaged the eccentrically coiffed comedian bedecked in armour astride a round table hoisting swords from stones and merrily getting off with wenches behind Guinevere s back Alas that dream must wait as he is in fact taking on the Dudley Moore role in the remake of the 1981 comedy of the same name currently being penned by Bruno and Borat scribe Peter Baynham The original film is famous for its lovable titular character a childlike millionaire who must make an agonising choice between inheriting his family s fortune or marrying the waitress he lov

s played by Liza Minnelli Although Moore and Minnelli are both superb it s the peerless John Gielgud who runs away with the movie and a Best Supporting Oscar as Hobson Arthur s kindly butler Finding someone to fill those shoes is never going to be easy but fans may be reassured that producers are lining up a big hitter albeit one of the opposite gender namely Meryl Streep Streep may seem an odd choice but she is proven to have a wicked sense of humour and definitely has the acting chops to be a suitable replacement for Gielgud who died in 2000 As for the Minnelli role aside from Brand s tongue in cheek insistence that Minnelli herself should play it If it ain t broke don t fix it That s my motto he says no one is yet to be cast So is this a good idea Do you think Brand and Streep can do justice to the original Check out the trailer to the original Arthur to help you make your decision Follow us on Twitter Become a fan on Facebook
