American Idol is a reality tv series created by Englishman Simon Fuller. It is a rivalry that attempts to get new musical talent. It debuted on Fox on June 11, 2002 and is one of the most popular shows in the United States. American Idol also airs in Canada, Australia, Asia, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Israel, and Latin America.

Potential contestants are auditioned nationwide each season by American Idol producers and judges, who hand-pick the best musical talent from the ages of 16 to 28.

They visit seven cities and pick between ten and 40 people in each city. The chosen candidates then go to Hollywood for the following stage of the competition. Once the contestants have made it to the Hollywood phase of the competition, they are expected to perform alone and in little groups. The judges watch these performances and make eliminations daily.

Once the contestants make it to the Hollywood portion of American Idol, eliminations are made daily. They must sing both solo performances and in little groups for the judges. The following step for contestants that aren’t eliminated are the televised finals. During the finals, contestants perform one song each week they take from a weekly theme. Various themes are selected from a wide diversity of musical genres and feature artists such as The Beatles, Dolly Parton Mariah Carey, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, and more.

The judges hold their opinions and then viewers that see the finals are capable to balloting for their favorite musical performers by phone, SMS text messaging or online after the sequence has ended. The chase are a number of American Idol winners in chronological order since the inaugural season: Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, David Cook, and Kris Allen. The success of American Idol is awarded with a $1 million record label and a director for the contract.

American Idol hosts a jury of judges that critiques the musician’s performances. This board was originally comprised of Randy Jackson, a music director and Grammy award-winning record producer, Simon Cowell, music executive and manager, and Paula Abdul, pop singer and prize winning choreographer. A fourth judge, singer-songwriter Kara DioGuardi was added for the eighth season. Paula Abdul was recently replaced during the 9th season with comic Ellen DeGeneres and Simon Cowell recently announced he would be going after the 2009-2010 season. The host of American Idol since its root has been Ryan Seacrest. The point is presently on running to continue on air for at least another three seasons.

American Idol has been the brunt of some harsh criticism for controlling the careers of the winners. Also, guest star Elton John claimed the judges were racist after they eliminated three African American contestants, one of which was Jennifer Hudson. Despite the criticism, the world series has been one of the best shows on American tv in the final decade.

American Idol is mired in an annual charity called “Idol Gives Back.#8221; The annual show features celebrities, featured performers, and donations from viewers. Past performers for “Idol Gives Back” include Kiefer Sutherland, Miley Cyrus, Robin Williams, Celine Dion, Dane Cook, and more.
